Wired for Sound

I had a busy day last week, where with the assistance of my electricians I managed to complete the following tasks:
  • Speaker Cabling:
    • Wire and install 4 in-ceiling speakers for surrounds
    • Wiring for centre speaker in bulkhead
    • Wiring and wall plates for main floorstanding speakers
    • Wiring for 2 speakers in pergola area (zone 2)
  • InfraRed Control Cabling
    • IR Targets in bulkhead and Pergola
    • IR transmitter wiring to screen, projector, light dimmer
  • Cat 6 Data Cabling
    • Install Patch Panel
    • Run cables from patch panel to Living Room, all bedrooms, and study
  • Electrical Wiring
    • New dedicated circuit for the A/V rack
    • Install IR controlled light switch and dimmer

Here's a few more pictures since I haven't updated the blog in a while:

I like the way you have put your major heat generating devices down the bottom of the rack, where they'll be in the path of the coolest air.

I assume that when finished you'll have a door and sides on the rack, otherwise you won't get good air flow bottom to top.

It's a 19" computer rack, it's designed with space at the sides as well as front and back.

Also contrary to popular belief, the hottest components are the network switch, video processor and NAS box. The amps are so grunty that they don't even break a sweat at the sort of listening levels that I'm allowed to run.

Also, I put the amps on top, the rack would be top-heavy and at risk of toppling when it's being moved.
